Who doesn't love The Little Mermaid? I know I sure do! It's such a classic story plus it also includes my love for mermaids and Disney, of course. And this cake also wouldn't be a cake without having the main characters on it.
I had a hard time finding pictures of Prince Eric that I liked, so I had to improvise a little bit. The image I used was actually one that had Ariel in it, I just removed her. I wanted it to give the impression of Eric coming to find Ariel in the ocean, and it certainly looks that way. The buttercream "waves" also give it the look of that Eric is actually sailing on the ocean as well.
This cake wouldn't be complete without the devious Ursula on it. I put her on the back of the cake mainly because she isn't Ariel and to me the back of the cake just seems to be the right place to put any villain.
And then there is Ariel, Flounder, and Sebastian. This drawing was done by the wonderful Steve Thompson. I just can't help but fall in love with his beautiful drawings of all the Disney characters. Wish I could have that talent!
