Disney Series: Alice in Wonderland

I love Alice in Wonderland and  I just can't get over on how cute the cookies of the characters turned out! And once again I'm home alone, this time for a full week(!!!!), and I'm getting all kinds of baking ideas out of my head and put onto cake! Along the way during this family free week, and continuing the Disney Series, I got another 3 character cakes done and you'll eventually get to see them! Can't wait!

The drawings of Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, and Alice were done by Steve Thompson. I can't seem to get enough of his drawings. There's something about them that I just love. Maybe it's the fact that they are super cute!

I wanted to keep the cake really simple so I iced it with white frosting and then did some icing transfers in the shape of diamonds in the color purple. To do the frosting transfers is really easy, but takes a little bit of time. Either way it's really worth it to add a little character to any cake!

Frosting Transfers

Supplies
  • Frosting
  • Wax or parchment paper
  • Piping bag
  • Small round tip
  • Small off-set spatula
  • Edible food marker
Measure out the parchment paper so it's the height and circumference of your cake. Make sure to have a little extra for a tab so you can maneuver it.

Take the edible food maker and draw out your design that you are wanting to do.

Pipe a small amount of the frosting into each section of your design and spread around with your small off-set spatula. Make sure it's a pretty thick layer of frosting to make it stick to your cake easier. Once your design is finished place it into the fridge for at least 30 minutes so it firms up. If you want to work faster place it into the freezer for at least 15 minutes or until firm.

Once your design is firm, carefully place along the side of the cake and smooth down with your hands. Place the cake into the fridge for another 30 minutes. You do this because the warmth from your hands made the frosting soft and it won't peel from the paper correctly.

After you peel off the paper from your cake and it looks like this picture above then just take more of the frosting and your small off-set and smooth it out to look like the picture below.

NOTE: This was my first attempt ever at doing this, and I will hopefully get another chance to do it again and make it look even better, because to be brutally honest, this isn't the best looking work.
