Football

Being that I'm living in Charlotte, North Carolina and today just happens to be the Superbowl in which the Carolina Panthers are playing I thought it'd be a good idea to do a little football type post to help celebrate!

I just made this cake recently for my cousin's birthday and I kept it really pretty simple. The helmet and football are just made with melted candy melts and the frosting is a basic vanilla colored a dark green with a grass piped border. It's really easy and simple to follow and all of the directions are listed below if you have a football loving friend that you know would love to have a cake like this.

Now I'm just going to leave it at that because there's a Superbowl party to get ready for that I don't want to miss out on. Go Panthers!

Football Cake

2 9-inch layers chocolate cake

1 batch frosting colored dark green

1/4 cup white frosting

Tip #233 (grass tip)

Small round tip

Brown candy melts

White candy melts

Blue candy melts (or color of choice)

Football template

Helmet template

• Bake the cake layers via the instructions and let cool completely.
• Make the frosting, making sure to remove about 1/4 cup for piping writing, and color the rest dark green. I did this by mixing a dark forest green and black until I got the color I wanted.
• Frost the cake and fill a piping bag fitted with the grass tip with some of the dark green frosting. Pipe a grass border along the bottom and top of the cake. Put the cake in the fridge to set.
• Print off the templates, making sure to size them the size you want. Lay wax paper over the templates.
• Melt brown, white, and colored candy melts of your choice each in a separate baggie. 
• For the football I started with the brown at one end, then the white stripe, brown, stripe of white, and ended with the small end of brown at the other end. Let it dry completely. Once dry add the white stripes on top.
• For the helmet I first piped the white chocolate "cage" part of the helmet, making sure every part was one connecting piece and let dry. Move the template over and pipe the colored candy melts over the rest of the helmet and then carefully add the "cage" part where it's supposed to be on the helmet and let dry completely.
• Fill a piping bag fitted with a small round tip with the white frosting you set aside. Pipe the saying that you want first and then carefully add the chocolate helmet and football around the piping.
